About the Piece
Awards
melting point was inspired by the sight of an icicle melting at the end of winter. The solid ice gradually transitions into flowing water, eventually forming the final droplets. With this in mind, the piece is constructed in a three-part form: ice, flowing, and drops (A, B, C). While the melodic material develops throughout the form, there is no repeated structure, mirroring the physical change from ice to water in the icicle—it does not revert back to ice.
