I haven’t blogged in a while… haven’t really felt like taking the time to write something out that is longer than 140 characters. Might as well catch you all up on what has been happening this summer. The highlights of this summer have been the following:
I have been playing in a CVSA soccer league. It is a coed rec league but is much more competitive than I thought it would be. I’m definitely one of the worst players in the league but I’ve made good improvements. With that has come a renewed push to get in shape. I’ve been going up to the park a lot of mornings and getting in some soccer running(sprints and running, not just jogging). I’m down to about 220 pounds now with a short term goal of under 210.
We went up to Wisconsin on a mini-vacation. We got to see Nate and Anne and also explore Milwaukee, Lake Geneva and Madison some. It was great to see them and celebrate with them that Lebak 2.0 is on the way!
Our 7th anniversary is in a couple days. We are going up to Ashland to eat at Ashland Coffee & Tea and then to walk around and explore the town some. Should be a nice and chill celebration.
Besides that it’s just been mostly work and trying to hang with friends. Hope your summer has been nice!
It’s a bit harsh at points but it’s an interesting statement on what our society thinks grownup means. It means being responsible and independence according to the article. I’m in complete agreement with the responsible part. The independence part not entirely if it means not depending on your friends for things and instead paying professionals. To me part of being friends to be be there for my friends. It’s okay to me that people depend on me. Here are some thoughts I had while reading:
You are completely fine to never send me a thank you note and save a tree.
Feel free to assume you can crash here if you need a place to stay when coming through town.
I will absolutely help you move. ASK ME. I kind of like it and I think it’s stupid to pay for movers.
For those of your not on twitter(or Facebook) you will not have seen that we(Farrell IT and PharrOut) launched a new site today: rvatweets!
Yes, it’s pink. Get over it.
The point of the site is to allow community conversation and reporting over twitter and flickr. Anytime any major event happens in RVA we’ll have a tag on there for it. Tag your content with that tag and your tweets/photos will end up on the site. We hope it will be a great way for people to stay up to date on things and just be a good general resource for RVA. Enjoy!
I’ve been completely obsessed with soccer lately. Maybe it’s that Basketball season is coming to an end or that MLS has started or that the Kickers season will start soon. Or maybe it’s just because soccer is such a fantastic sport! To give you a glimpse of how great it is enjoy this video:
With today’s announcement that the Renegades are going out of business we are left with only one single professional sports team in Richmond at the moment, the Kickers. They are about to start their season and could use our support! I’ll be updating this blog with more info about games as they come up.
Regarding the title of this post, this may be a pipe-dream but as I was thinking about sports in Richmond I couldn’t help but think that what sport really belonged in the bottom was soccer. All the best soccer experiences in the world have a couple things in common… they are soccer-specific stadiums near pubs and public transit. No place in the greater Richmond area represents that possibility better than the bottom! What do you think?
