Shooting Tonight 6

Police tape 1Police tape 2

There was a shooting up here on the hill tonight. It seems that the shooting took place about a block from our house and then the guy rode his bike over to our block and collapsed. The police showed up and quickly got him away in an ambulance. They then proceeded to block off a HUGE area and do a lot of talking. We got to talk to some neighbors, police officers and reporters. That is all I know and things seem to have calmed down some outside. Guess it’s time for bed.

Saturday randomness 3

Alicia went with Alisha to try to pick blueberries this morning. Unfortunately when they got there the farm was closed and it looks like every other farm is as well. Must be the drought. I have been bumming out on the couch this morning reading stuff online and watching the USA vs Australia Women’s Basketball gold medal game.

I have a couple observations about watching the best women in the world play basketball. First, Candice Parker is the only one who seems to transcend all the stereotypes of women’s basketball on a consistent basis. Second, the game is the US hip hop girls vs the Blondes in bodysuits and for some reason I can’t keep myself from rooting for the blondes even though they are getting beat pretty handily.

And Obama picks Biden as his running mate huh? How can anyone be excited about that? Sure he’s experienced and I’m sure a good guy, but I’m not at all excited about it. He’s an old white man who is a career politician and has shown more support for McCain in the past than he has Obama. In fact, I’ve been getting less and less excited about Obama for a while now. I know that in the primaries the candidates go to the extremes and in the general election they go to the middle… but at what point do we have to ask what Obama brings that McCain doesn’t? Is it really about just picking one party over the other? Not that I’ll be voting for McCain unless something big changes, if Obama loses my vote(and it’s his to lose) then I will likely vote 3rd party.

Ok, enough randomness… enjoy your weekend.

The cause of my insanity

Posted by Daniel on August 22, 2008

If I go insane in the near future let it be stated for the record that what pushed me over the edge was the constant banging and sawing next door that seems to happen 24 hours a day. I think it’s broken by brain.

Goodbye Nanny, R.I.P. 2

Posted by Daniel on August 15, 2008

Tonight at around 9:30 my grandmother(who we grew up calling Nanny) passed away. She collapsed while playing cards with her girlfriends yesterday and never recovered. The word that is coming to my mind when I think about her life is committed. She was as committed to her church, her husband, her family and friends as anyone could possibly be. To realize that to equal their marriage mark Alicia and I need to be married 56 more years blows my mind! She is already missed here.

Vimeo Rocks!

Just wanted to take a second and give a shoutout to the amazing video website Vimeo. It does a fantastic job of making it very easy to share videos online. The site is very easy to use, the community is thriving, the video quality is fantastic(better than my camcorder does with their HD support) and they allow you to customize the colors of your embedded video to fit your site as well. I have nothing but the utmost praise to give them! Way to go Connected Ventures on a fantastic site!
