Monastic thoughts

Posted by Daniel on January 28, 2004

We got our copies of Celtic Daily Prayer and A Holy Island Prayer Book today. I’m very much looking forward to starting the discipline of praying the Daily Office. I’ve really felt a need for rhythm in my life lately… hopefully this can bring some of that.

Here are some cool neo-monastic links: Northumbria Community, The Prayer Foundation and Universalis. Each has a version of the Daily Office online.

Snow day! …and some other ramblings…

We got some good snow last night, so Alicia’s morning work and school were cancelled and my work is only going to be remote stuff. Yay!

In other news I’ve been reading up on the Atom weblog technologies. The standardization effort is a big deal and definitely something to follow. It won’t be very long and you will be able to post to just about all blogs from the same tools and read feeds from them all in the same format. Very cool.

Thinking… and needing rhythm 3

Posted by Daniel on January 23, 2004

Yesterday when I was driving to Denton, MD on the eastern shore for a job I had some good time to think. I’m processing what it means to live in the Kingdom of God… hopefully as this thinking progresses I’ll have something to share about it here, but I don’t yet.

What I have realized is that I need more rhythm in my life. My job is such that I never know what the day is going to be like when I wake up. Now, that excitement can me fun, but I also need rhythm… I want to start something like Celtic Daily Prayer and try some other monastic disciplines…

Working late

I worked until just about midnight last night at SCR cleaning viruses… and now I am up this morning to get ready for work again. Yuck! At least the weekend is almost here. Yesterday I didn’t get to spend any time with Alicia at all… she was working when I was done with work, so I went to my parent’s house for dinner. Then I went to SCR after that and she came home from work. I have a feeling that with her starting school and her work picking up that there may be more days like that in our future. :(

Alicia had her orientation at Towson yesterday. She is going back to school this semester and she is really excited about it. Ask her about it and see her light up!
