Greetings to the last few people who read or subscribe to this blog.
I’m going to retire this blog as it is no longer in regular use. I will be converting it into static pages and will keep it online as an archive of my a good part of my life but it won’t be active anymore. If you want to keep up with me personally I suggest Facebook or Twitter. I also plan on occationally using my Tumblr account but there isn’t anything there yet. There will eventually be a programming focused blog on my github page but there also is nothing there yet.
Thanks for following along with my life over the years.

Today marks 8 years of marriage for Alicia and I. Normally anniversaries have been exciting and a bit stressful(trying to make them special and normally failing) but expectedly it’s a completely different experience when you are separated. I have felt a lot of stress this past week as today approached and even took the day off of work because I thought I wouldn’t function properly today.
But today has been anti-climactic. I didn’t really sleep in and I have not had any breakdowns. I got up and ate a smoothie for breakfast and did some pilates(my normal morning routine these days) and I’ve done chores. I have been sad but that was/is expected. I don’t really have plans for the rest of the day other than some more chores and seeing if I can pamper my knee into letting me play in our soccer game tonight. Overall, an anniversary to forget.

Another big change in life! In a rapid series of events at the end of last week I talked to a recruiter, interviewed for a job, and was offered the job. After a weekend to think about it and “count the cost” of giving up working for myself I have decided to accept the job. In two weeks time I’ll be working for Weinstein Properties doing web application development. I’m excited about this change and look forward to seeing what this next step in my career will hold. Since I’ve now communicated to my clients about it I can tell all of you lovely people about it.
Nerdy stuff: The work will be maintaining/updating some PHP web applications, transitioning some of those to Ruby on Rails, and creating new applications in Ruby on Rails. I’ve got a lot to learn and explore and I’m very excited about it!
Look for some posts about going back into a 9-5 after being self-employed for a few years, I’m sure there will be some transitions!

Alicia moved out this week(see here if you are confused). She started moving things to her new apartment when she got back from visiting her family and started sleeping there on Tuesday night when her new bed arrived. She’s got a couple of dressers to get still but is pretty far along. Tonight she moved two of our cats(Audrey and Piper) over there. This is going to take some getting used to. :-/

Today is a day to remember those we lost in the Virginia Tech shooting that happened 3 years ago. For me that is Jarrett. For those who don’t know, Jarrett was my brother-in-law. So today I’m remembering Jarrett. Jarrett was:
- a fantastic son to Tracey
- a amazing grandson to Nancy and Bob
- a wonderful brother to Alicia and Fawn
- a great brother in law to Roger and I
- an awesome friend to all his friends
Thinking back to 4/16/2007 brings up a lot of hurt. It was an awful and horrible day and no one should ever have to experience a day(or week for that matter) like that. But all I can do to handle that experience and the loss is to be grateful for the time I had with Jarrett. Jarrett, it was such an honor to have you in my life for the time that I did. You were a great brother-in-law and friend. I miss you terribly.
